A True Wordsmith-Shonell Bacon

The minute twins and mystery novelists Jovan and Cheyenne Parham find their lives settling
into a nice rhythm, all hell breaks loose – in their personal lives and in the latest crime they find themselves mixed up in. Jo is trying to build a relationship with Mark Brockman, but the deaths of her husband and Mark’s wife, and the sordid nature of their coming together keeps her from jumping into the relationship with both feet. Cheyenne is head over heels in love with former detective-now P.I. Ian Davenport, but unexpected news and Ian’s involvement in a new case causes Chey to second guess the deepness of their love. Trying to figure out their love lives becomes all the more complicated when Jo and Chey are thrust into a series of kidnappings and murders involving young girls who seem to make the wrong friends online. When a mayoral candidate’s daughter is kidnapped, Ian finds himself on the case, much to the chagrin of Chey considering he spends an awful lot of time holding and caring for the candidate’s wife. Bringing the girl home safely and finding the killer pushes the twins to the limits of their personal and professional lives. Going into a web of infidelity, lies, deception, and murder often leaves all involved in disarray. Will Jovan and Cheyenne find themselves, once again, trying to pick up the remaining fragments of their lives once this is all over?

October 21
Take down.
Those words rang in Jovan Parham’s mind as she danced around the ring, staring into the eyes of Derryck, her kickboxing trainer.
“Come on, Jo,” Derryck said while holding up his padded hands. “Pay attention. Jab left, cross right, jab right.”
“I’m doing it,” she said, her voice nearing a whine.
“You look lazy.” Derryck’s left hand made its way to Jovan’s headgear. She just managed to move, but heard the sound of his fist whizzing by her face. “I haven’t tagged your face in nearly four months.”
Jovan smiled and took two jabs to the side of Derryck’s face; the second one connected.
“And you didn’t get me this time either,” she replied.
The two continued to spar, sharing words and punches and kicks, but Jovan’s mind was still stuck on two words: take down.
She woke up in the middle of the night after a horrific nightmare, one she had almost every month since she moved into her new condo a year ago. The nightmare was always the same: she watching as a host of characters took part in killing her. She lay, shackled to a metal table, dressed in a white loose gown that had been ripped to shreds. Every few minutes, someone would come into the dimly lit room and cut her with a sharp, curved blade. No words were ever exchanged. She screamed with each flick of the blade, begged for her life, but it was all for naught. Cordell came in and took a chunk of her. As did his mother. As did his brother. Alisha took her share as well, as did Sarah, which broke Jovan’s heart more than Cordell wanting to kill her. She had thought Sarah was her best friend. Finding out she had slept with Cordell and carried his child tore at her heart. To know that even in her nightmares Sarah wanted to hurt her more nearly broke her.
The last person to come in was always Linda Hayes. And unlike the others, who were more like automatons, coming to do their robotic bidding, Linda had a sparkle in her eyes, a curl of her lip, an extra dig of her cut when she took her swipe of Jovan. She had hoped that her time at the altar during service that morning, where she begged God, begged him to remove the nightmares, might give her a night of respite, but it wasn’t to be. If she actually took time to think about it, she’d realize that her continuous thinking about the nightmares would only create more of them.
When she woke up last night from the nightmare, Jovan rushed to her office—a place that held warm, soft thoughts for her as it was the place where words took to life. She reached for the small blue bible she kept on the desk and rifled through the pages before landing her finger on Luke 10:19, I have given you authority …to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
The words brought her peace, but she had an even better way of using her authority to overcome her enemies. She took out a pad and pen, and spent a good hour creating a list of people she needed to take down.
Linda Hayes was at the top of that list. For going on two years, the TrĂ©s Chic head reporter-now executive producer had been relentless in her pursuit to find something bad to report about Jovan. Even after everyone else had put the murder of Jovan’s husband and the fallout of it behind them, Linda was determined to continue to bring up Jovan’s painful story: Cordell’s murder. Cordell’s affair with Alisha. Cordell’s affair with Sarah. The baby Sarah carried. The complex scheming and plotting that revealed Cordell’s drugged-out brother was supposed to kill Jovan but instead killed Cordell. Jovan’s reaching out to Mark, Sarah’s husband, in a time of need and the subsequent relationship that continued long after Cordell was buried. The justice (though not peace) that was brought to Jovan and her family.
In all parts of the world, Jovan’s soap opera of a life had come and gone as new, crazier stories unfolded. But in Baltimore, where she and her twin Cheyenne were deemed stars for their bestselling-authors status and their charities, Jovan’s story continued to live—mostly thanks to Linda Hayes.
And somehow, she had managed to overcome her anger at Linda and this ferocious, tenacious need Linda had to break her down.
But then yesterday arrived, and Jovan became undone.
She had tried to go about her day. She went to a speaking engagement for her solo inspirational non-fiction, Picking up the Pieces, a book that detailed the story of her life with Cordell and the aftermath. She met with Cheyenne to work on the outline of their next mystery, Vanishing Keys. She even got ready to meet Mark for a dinner date down at the Inner Harbor. Not once did anyone in her inner circle mention the significance of the day: the second anniversary of Cordell’s death. They knew it wasn’t needed. They knew Jovan would have stayed up the entire night prior, still crying over the loss, still angry over the betrayal, still unsteady on what to do with her life. She was still fragile from the coming and going of Cordell’s birthday nearly three weeks ago. She had spent that day in quiet reflection, wondering why, yet again, she couldn’t find out about Cordell’s lies before anyone had to die. She still felt like an idiot over believing Sarah was her friend. She had spent hours talking to Sarah, telling her about the decline in her marriage—never realizing that her supposed friend was sleeping with her husband.
Any normal person, knowing what she’d been through, would have given Jovan this day to grieve, to feel, to think in her own personal space.
But not Linda Hayes.
Jovan had expected to hear from her. After all, she saw commercials regarding Linda’s anniversary special. Linda had her assistant call her earlier in the month, trying to get her to talk about Cordell on the day of his birthday. Jovan had told her to “Go read Picking up the Pieces if you’re so damn interested in learning what I’m willing to say about Cordell. Other than that, leave me the hell alone, Miss Hayes.”
It was only a matter of time that Linda would call her again, trying to get some comment to use for her latest special.
Linda’s assistant called. Six, seven, eight times. Every time, Jovan would hang up.
On the ninth time, as she slipped her feet into her black stilettos, Jovan finally relented.
She picked up the phone and yelled, “Let me speak to Linda.” She quickly raced into the office and picked up her digital recorder, turning it on and setting her phone on speakerphone. Linda came on to the phone, her voice warm and soft as she said, “I’m so sorry for your loss, Jovan.”
“If you’re so sorry, why are you harassing me? Obviously, I have nothing to say to you.”

A Taste of Lust & Bound

I'm trying something new. One the advice of another author I'm hoping to create a little more buzz and interest in my upcoming release Lust & Bound.

You've seen the cover and if you haven't...

I had a few posters made and can't wait to get them framed, well at least one of them. Sorry got sidetracked. And if you follow me on Twitter you may have seen a few snippets here and there. Well I'm going to tease you with a scene or two today. Zach has arrived at Trisha's salon for his weekly appointment, but there's a little more going on than just getting his hair did.

Zach sat in his car, staring at the shop. He shoved a handful of hair from his face as he studied the woman moving inside. Her movements were jerky, restless, not as graceful or sure as she paced the shop. Every now and then she paused to look at her watch and comb her fingers through her long tousle of curls. A perplexed expression adorned her pretty face when she glanced at the door.
A slight smile tipped his lips. She was waiting for him. A quick glance at the dashboard clock confirmed he was late. No wonder she was concerned.
Still, there were other issues he needed to consider. He dropped his gaze to the paper on the passenger seat. The scratched out face and dark slashing amrks left him cold and angry.
I’m watching her, echoed through his brain and apprehension slid down his spine. Someone sat in this very spot and took this picture—today. Zach crumpled the grainy photo in his fist, wishing he could erase the threat just as easily.
He exited the car and cast a wary eye around the parking lot. Nothing seemed out of place, but he still needed to be careful. The locks clicked and horn chirped to indicate he’d locked the doors. Once more he peered through the salon window. “Shear Fabulous” was emblazoned on the glass in vibrant blue letters. He paused when she bent to retrieve a pen from the floor. The short black skirt stretched across the curve of her voluptuous ass. Stifling a groan he shifted his now throbbing erection. She straightened, smoothed down her skirt and adjusted the lavender scooped neck tank. Just one night to taste all that butterscotch skin, that’s all he wanted.
He straightened as an idea occurred. Maybe there was a way to keep her safe and indulge his fantasies.
She turned, tossing her near waist length hair from her face, and locked eyes with him. A sultry smile curved her luscious lips and he yearned to sample the sweetness of her mouth. His cock twitched. Or better yet feel the heat of her mouth wrapped around the rigid length of him. He stared at her, images of her head in his lap while his hand fisted in the silky length of her hair teased him.
 ****
Trisha sighed in relief. Finally. She hurried to open the door and twisted the lock.
“I was getting worried.” She leaned against the glass, holding it open.
Zach stood in front of her, the crisp white dress shirt slightly wrinkled stretched across his well-muscled chest. He lifted a hand and dragged a gentle finger against her skin just above the scooped neckline of her lavender top. A shiver raced through her body at the provocative caress.
“Were you?” His velvety voice was pure seduction. Just two little words and she was ready to melt into a pool at his feet.
She nodded as she stared up at him. “Late client?”
“Paperwork. My office manager gets a little testy when I don’t do my mileage logs.” He moved past her and into the shop.
She locked the door behind him. When she turned he was already loosening his tie and unbuttoning his shirt. The sight of his back with its taut muscles rippling beneath the cotton left her breathless. Removing his shirt shouldn’t have surprised her, as he’d done it every time before, but this time the urge to run her fingers over the sinewy chocolate-hued flesh was overwhelming. Damn Shauna and her handcuff comment.
“Are you ready for me?” Zach stood framed in the doorway removing his cufflinks.

All righty then. I hope you've been sufficiently teased, if not I promise to post more in the coming weeks. Until next time, Indulge Your Inner Romantic.

Line Up to be Spanked

I think Lynn might have a Master around here somewhere with a nice leather crop and he’s chomping at the bit to see all of us bent over holding our ankles! *peeking behind the door, then the curtain* I know I’m not alone in my fantasies! Now, perhaps my imagination is a bit more risquĂ© than some but I like to create a visual for the reader so they get just as heated up reading as I do writing. I’ll apologize now for the mess on your screen or keyboard! Grab your towel before you read!

Most readers, male or female, secretly fantasize about being tied up during sex whether they want to admit it or not. It’s just human nature to think naughty! That’s not a bad thing unless you start doing it in your front yard for the neighbors to see and I’m too shy for that…besides, I don’t have any neighbors that I’d like to show that to, yet! *wicked laugh* Way back in the dark corners of your mind is that secret little box that opens when we read forbidden shit and it makes us want to be a character in a book who’s doing what we’d love to be doing but are too shy.
What I really hope is that by reading my books, my readers can open the conversation with their partners about what they want in their sex lives. Maybe both are already thinking it but are afraid to ask. That only leads to frustration so start the conversation with your partner and maybe start with the blindfold! I have links on my site to help you begin the conversation. Of course a few videos help too! *wink*
Now, maybe YOU’VE already been spanked! Next time your partner spanks you, stop and feel just how erotic that was for you…cause your panties will be WET, I guarantee it! Admit it or not…it excites you when he bends you over his knee as you struggle or makes you bend over the arm of the overstuffed chair as he holds your wrists in his hand, out of the way of his hand or crop and he slowly pulls those panties down to bare your ass. When you hear the crack as he makes contact, there’s an internal switch that goes on to start those juices that you try to hide. He knows it; you know it...you can’t ignore it so make the best of it. Those juices are gonna happen!
How many are bad on purpose just so he’ll bend you over? Let’s do another scenario…he ‘watches’ as his Master friend spanks you….then checks to make sure he’s accomplished his task! OMG! You’re already seeping, aren’t you? Don’t lie to us!! LOL I’ve already opened that box in the dark corner of your mind…admit it or not…I heard it open!
So what is it that is erotic about spanking and why do we love to read about it? Please feel free to leave a comment and let’s toss a few ideas around ‘cause I’m curious. My next book, due out June 17th, is titled Master’s Email and has spanking in it…among a few other scenarios! Yes, that little box will open again when you read this one so grab your towel now; keep it handy.
How many of you are bad on purpose so he’ll spank you? Do you prefer his hand, a crop or a soft leather flogger? You can tell us, come on!
CONTEST:  On June 19th, I’ll pick one entry to win a $10 gift card so you can go buy some of those dirty little books! Click HERE to send in your entry and be sure to type in that you were at Lynn’s blog about spanking! Lynn will post the winner and I’ll send your card!

Character Interview-Ameilia Hamilton from

What’s your favorite color?

Yellow, especially the pale buttery color of my bedroom walls.

What type of vehicle do you drive?

Big Red. He’s a rusty pickup truck that I haven’t been able to part with. He’s like family to me.

Describe yourself to me.

At 22 years old, I’m short with dark curly hair and hazel eyes. I’m accident prone and sarcastic. I love art and hate math and asparagus. Also, I’m cursed.

How would your mate describe you?

With how distant he’s been lately, I doubt he wants to describe me at all. If I had to guess, Connor would say I’m stubborn, determined, creative, naĂ¯ve, willing and sarcastic.

What really moves you, or touches you to the soul?

Compassion, loyalty and the truth.

What's the one thing you have always wanted to do but couldn't? What would happen if you did do it?

Find my parents. I’d ask them why they left me.

Describe your ideal mate.

Loyalty is very important to me. I want someone who can surprise me and they must be trustworthy.

What are you most afraid of?

Needles, mosquitoes and my grandfather.

What's the most important thing in your life?

Right now, staying alive.

What do you consider your special talent?

“Special” is a stretch. I call it a curse. You’ll need to read the story to learn the details.

How did you meet the hero/heroine?

I’m the heroine of the story, but another hero is Nick. I met him through the IA.

Was it love at first sight or did it develop slowly?

It’s far from love at first sight. He had a lot of reservations about me. Sometimes, I think he still does.

What did you like/dislike about him/her when you first met?

He’s a jackass, rude and closed off. I could go on for hours. Underneath his many levels of “bad boy” exterior, I know there’s more to him.

If you were granted three wishes, what would you ask for?

People I’ve lost to be returned, The Physician Coalition to disappear and the clichĂ© wish for additional wishes.
Thank you for interviewing me! I had a great time!

A conversation with a stranger changes Amelia Hamilton's life forever. When she learns her grandfather faked his own death, normalcy slips from Amelia's grasp. To make matters worse, he is coming for her in less than seven days. What she hasn't determined is why.
Amelia's grandfather, Marius Benedict, once headed The Physician Coalition, an elite group of doctors who threw the Hippocratic Oath out the window. Years ago, they used a low-risk medical research study as a front for their experiments. Without their consent, innocents were injected with JackRabbit7, a hazardous substance used to alter their DNA. The victims were left with less-than-desirable super-human powers or excruciating death. Years after he disbanded the group, Marius has a new plan and is reforming The Coalition.
Max, a mysterious stranger from the Insurance Agency, offers to help keep Amelia safe. He introduces The Agency as an underground government organization that contains and eliminates those who intend to harm the world. To protect The Agency, the truth of their activities are concealed and replaced with sugar-coated stories in the media.
Over the course of the next week, Amelia has to accept the truth and learn who can be trusted. At midnight on her 23rd birthday, a contract between The Coalition and The Insurance Agency will expire, giving Marius full rein to approach his granddaughter and finish the project he started with her so many years ago.

Getting Off the Couch with Mary E. Twomey

I'm pleased to have with me, my first ever editor. We met many years ago on my journey into publishing and we hit it off. Well we lost touch, but I never forgot about Mary. Imagine my surprise when I got an email from one of the loops I'm on and I saw her name and it was the same person I'd been looking for. So without any more rambling from me, here's Mary.

My favorite pair of shoes are my Adidas Sambas. They’ve come out with countless variations, but the perfection of the classic footwear can’t be stressed enough. Each pair that I purchase is worn for years until the rubber is so eroded that there are literally holes in the bottom of my shoes (yes, I drag my feet occasionally when I walk).
Much of life is about comfort. It’s a bumpy ride, so why shouldn’t we make every effort to be relaxed? Wait until rush hour is over, buy the cake instead of making it, forego exercise for television, watch the movie instead of reading the book. Before we know it, we’re in a cozy little rut, and we have no idea how we got there.
Some things are good to go easy on. Others present a problem that may take some real effort to solve. My fear is that we get too cozy on our couches. Perhaps we wait too long to stand up and go after what’s truly important to us. Worry and the long list of things that could go wrong build up until we lose sight of our dreams. We turn in the runner’s baton for the remote, the race for the bed.
Saga of the Spheres was my way to challenge myself. Almost anyone can start a book, but am I a finisher? And when I complete a project, my habit is to downplay it, even hide it from others, for fear of criticism. Could I open my mouth and announce to the world that I completed something I enjoyed – dare I say, am proud of?
Then, it dawned on me – people criticize Shakespeare. Shakespeare! I don’t know who these people are, but they exist. And I’ve yet to meet one that I’ve left standing, but there are those who are not fans of J.K. Rowling! Can you believe the state of the world?
Upon the completion of yet another round of editing out the kinks in the Saga, I began to think of the fears I would have to face in order to do justice to the hard work I put in to the series. I would have to (gasp) tell people that I wrote four books. Yep. Sometimes the first step is the hardest.
Next, I would have to (gulp) ask for help. Actually, the second step is the hardest. I pride myself on having a long history of not asking for much help. That pride kept me nice and warm for years until, surprisingly, I found one of my toes dead from frostbite. I’ve learned to ask for blankets instead of clinging to my wholly blanket called self-sufficiency. And, it turns out, it won’t kill you. I never realized such a miracle could happen. I could ask for marketing advice, help building a website, a book trailer, people to pass out flyers, happy retweeters, and more, and no one died. Fantastic.
Another lesser known fear I have is one of public speaking. For anyone who has met me, they will no doubt think this is a joke. I have a decent acting resume, and am in general a fairly talkative person. Being a character onstage is entirely different from being yourself. Having a conversation is not the same as delivering a monologue in which people stare at you, daring you to say something interesting. But, this is the new Mary, and she will not be afraid any longer. So I called up my old favorite English teacher, who shockingly, remembered me, and booked two speaking engagements to talk to his students about writing. Again, I did not faint, throw up, accidentally curse or besmirch the good name of writers.
Saga of the Spheres was the vehicle that brought me to a new appreciation of really putting yourself out there. I learned to write a mythology, market my behind off, ask for help, and engage in public speaking. I can only hope that when your vehicle comes along, you have the courage to throw on your Adidas and fling yourself onto the wagon, no matter how rough the terrain ahead might be. Remember, your friends and family will be there to catch you if you should fall. And if anyone points out the mud on your shoe, give them a friendly little kick to the curb and get back on the wagon. He’ll be in your rearview soon enough.
People will cheer and boo – such is the state of things. However, if you spend your life not moving for fear of making too awkward a splash, you’ll find yourself drowning just so you are not thought a fool. Don’t be that fool.

Behind the scenes of our spinning earth are keepers of the elements who make sure that tornados don’t destroy cities, fires don’t ravage forests, earthquakes don’t decimate towns, and floods don’t take out humanity. They wrestle with the natural elements to ensure that the world keeps spinning smoothly on its axis.

Since the beginning of time, the Sun has been fading, and the light that shines on the earth is dimming, causing the elements to be more volatile and impossible for the keepers to control.

Now they must enlist the help of one man, Finn, to help them bring the light back to the Sun. The keepers war, the North Star steals light from the Sun, and the Moon is in disrepute. The end of existence is coming, and all the while the king, the Moon, Lir, remains silent.
