Meet Judy Lynn Hubbard

How do you overcome the I-can’t-write blues?
Honestly, writer’s block is not my problem—between working full-time, Tweeting, trying to keep up on Facebook and my wordpress blog and SavvyAuthors blog—time is my problem!   Ideas are always circulating around in my head crying to get out!  I write everyday, maybe not as long as I’d like, but I put something down daily and weekends are when I really let go and write all day long, which I live for!

If you could go anywhere in the world on a romantic getaway, what would you do and where would you go?
I’d like to visit Italy—the home of romance!   It’s a place steeped in history, art, architecture, romance and let’s not forget about good food!   I’m crazy about Italian food and would welcome the chance to experience some authentic Italian cooking.   I’ve always wanted to take a ride in a gondola—even though I don’t really care for boats.  Of course, I wouldn’t leave without visiting the colosseum.  It would be the experience of a lifetime to walk among the ruins and lose myself in the beauty of that country and its artistic buildings surrounded by water.  Ahh, maybe one day!

The tag line on my blog is ‘Indulge Your Inner Romantic.’ What do you do to indulge?
Well, this is going to sound boring, but for me, doing nothing, just relaxing and being still is an indulgence!  I’m always on the go—especially now with my debut novel coming out in February, promoting that and working full-time to pay the bills, dealing with regular life issues—family and friends.  Just finding time to relax and do nothing is my greatest indulgence.

What is the hardest thing for you to write?
You’re expecting me to say the love scenes—right?  Fooled you!  Actually love scenes are the easiest to write.   I suppose the hardest would be scenes where I have to explain my characters’ motivations to the reader.  My characters can make the reader want to pull their hair out or smack them upside the head, cry with them, laugh or scream, but that’s my goal—the reader has to “feel” something for my characters, or they’re not going to invest in their story.  I really want the reader to understand and like my characters (unless they’re the villain) so I try really hard to explain what they’re thinking, feeling, what their motivations are and why they’re doing what they’re doing.  I strive to make them sympathetic, likeable and above all else, realistic.

What one piece of advice would you give to an aspiring writer?
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND NEVER GIVE UP!  I can’t emphasize that one point enough.  Others may laugh at you and say you’ll never make it.  You WILL receive rejection letters from publishers and agents and there will be times when you think you should pack it all in and forget about writing, but ask yourself one question—Is writing what you really want to do?  If the answer is yes, then give it everything you have, never give up and know in your heart that one day, you will reach your goal of becoming a published author—it happened to me and I know it can happen for you too, but not if you give up!

Thanks so much for having me on your blog today.  I hope we can do it again soon!

Hi Judy. I'm very happy to have you here and would love for you visit again. Congratulations on your upcoming release. I can't wait to see the cover and all the buzz!

Feel free to help yourself to the buffet and open bar. My chef loves to cook, unlike me. :-)

Did someone say buffet? Ha-ha. Nice interview Judy. I've been to Rome, and believe me, you'll love it. I want to go back some day because I had such a wonderful time.

Like you, I'd also like to ride in a gondola, so that's on my list for the next trip--whenever that is.
